Alejandro Aguilar Canela is an award winning multidisciplinary artist and designer from Mexico currently living in Austin, TX, who specializes in drawing with mechanical pencil. He believes in the usefulness of what are usually considered negative emotions to learn and grow at a much faster pace. In that way, he uses art as a pathway to connect with our darkest self, the unwanted, the ignored, just to leave a speckle of hope to grab onto. Naturally, you can find in his work themes such as emotional numbness, mental health, identity and childhood.
He has a BA in Visual Information Design, an MFA in Illustration Practice, a Certificate in the College Teaching of Art and has been exhibiting his work internationally including countries like Germany, Belgium, Canada, Mexico and the US where he took part in the 2018 Miami Art Basel. The awards he holds include a Silver Young Lion and in 2019 he was part of the Best Young Artists according to Domestika Mx. Currently he keeps exploring the rawness of working with lead while being a Sr. Art Director at Bakery Agency.
